Confused Hi!! I need diagnostic help!! (1997 Olds Aurora)

Hey everyone,

I just got a 1997 Olds Aurora with about 115000 miles on it and this is what's happening. The car has excellent power and the transmission runs smoothly, but it has problems getting started sometimes. There are 2 things that are happening:

1.) About every 10th time I start the car, the engine turns over and then immediately following the ignition I hear what sounds like a fairly loud "click" or a "clack" noise. That's the only way I can describe it. It is not a repetetive noise but only occurs once, IMMEDIATELY after the ignition kicks in and doesn't occur for another 10 starts or so. Is it a mounting problem?

2.) Also, about every 10 starts or so, and it appears not related to # 1, the engine just has a hard time turning over. It takes it about 3 extra seconds to start.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate the help

Also, on # 1 I think the engine might surge a little bit at the time of the clack/clunk noise.

Thanks so much,

B
