2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

Okay. After a recent tune up preformed by me and my brother my car began to stutter. So I cleaned the MAF after reading what could be causing the stutter. Once cleaned the car still continues to stutter. So then we replaced it. It worked for a while and now the car stutters when idling in drive and when the car is at half throttle under 20 and at full around 60-70. What else should I be check for?

Okay. time for a bit of an update. I removed the battery and let all of the power disapate from the car to reset the sensors and what not. changed the brakes and plugged it back into the battery. now, when I go to half throttle to 30 she stutters here and there. Is there another sensor that could be my problem?

Re: 2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

Engine size and mileage would be useful info

Check for loose or disconnected vacuum lines

If your problem is with a sensor it will (more than likely) throw a code and "check engine" light will be on. With todays cars you can waste lots of money and time by guessing on solutions. I haven't checked the prices of OBDII scanners recently but I bet they don't cost any more than a few "mistakes".

Cars have changed greatly since I first started wrenching my own vehicles. We're not talking "plugs cap rotor condensor points" any more. Everything relies on sensors and an appropriate scanning tool is a MUST if you wish to maintain your ride by yourself.

Re: 2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

Okay heres the deal:

Its a baisc mustang 3.6 L engine.

Stock. no changes.

No check engine lights since I replaced the spark plugs. no codes being thrown out by the computer. Ive add a fuel system cleaner to two seperate full tanks of gas from the advice of the local repair shop. She is still choking when half throttle is applied. It happens with full throttle too but not as bad. My brother is thinking its another sensor, but Im tired of just replacing and seeing if it works.

Re: 2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

did you buy a new MAF or get a used one? i just went through 4 before i got a good one from a junkyard. had one that half way worked kinda did the same thing your talking about. i could hold the throttle at any set spot and the motor would run but like it had a small miss and with full throttle it ran but was under powered a bit.

Bud.

I spent the money and bought a new one. Luckily my brother works at a auto parts shop so I got a good deal. 75 instead of 130. But she stutters while idling in drive along with pressing the throttle.

Re: 2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

How about if I ask some really stupid questions?

I do know what a tune-up is....but:
What parts/components were replaced or inspected during the tune-up?
What adjustments were made during the tune-up (if any)?
Why was a tune-up performed?
What mileage is on the car?

The reason I asked the engine size in an earlier post was due to the fact that the 4.6L engine was prone to intake manifold failure in some model years. Perhaps that was taken care of before 2003...but in any case that is a moot point if you do have a 3.6L.

Re: 2003 Mustang Coupe Stutter.

i know its not the greatest thing to do but, have you tried pulling the wires off the injectors to make sure they are all working? if the miss is at a higher rpm you might need someone to hold the throttle to the miss point while you pull the injector harness' of one by one to see if there is engine response. this is if it dose miss with higher rpms in park or neutral.

Its defintely a 3.6L. I had to preform the tune up. I was way way over do for one. My car is at 75000+ miles right now. And no adjustments were made to the car. The only thing not done during the tune up was cleaning out the throttle body. Which hopefully I can do tomorrow once I wake up. Which also hopefully saves my car in the end.
