2002 Saturn Key jacked up
Wondering if anyone else has this problem. When I put my key in to start it. It takes forever for the key to turn. Even if the steering wheel is not locked. I have to slide the key back and forth until it grabs or have to move it up and down for it to grab for me to turn the key. Does anyone know a quick fix for this or have this problem?

Re: 2002 Saturn Key jacked up
you can get powder graphite at your local auto retail store, put a little inside the key hole and sometimes this helps the problem for a while. your toumblers are most likely wearing out.

Re: 2002 Saturn Key jacked up
the tumblers are in the houseing you would have to get a new ignition switch. they are very simple to change on most vehicles. on most vehicles you put your key in turn it just a little towards start and pull out (towards the passenger seat). then install new one and your done. i dont know if yours is like this or not but its worth a try.
if your old key has anti theft parts it will be more difficult than this. Bud. |

Re: 2002 Saturn Key jacked up
Thanks a bunch. Really didnt know that the tumblers were known to go out on saturns until I did some research. However in my case this was not the problem. After looking at the key i was using to my spare key i noticed a huge difference. (Didnt look at this before because my dad had my spare key) My original key was worn down tremendously! I went to saturn and had a new key cut this morning. Problem solved! But if it happens again at least I will know what is wrong and what to do. Thanks a bunch!

Re: 2002 Saturn Key jacked up
Regardless of the fact that the issue has been resolved, a little graphite is always helpful. If your key is worn then so are the 'tumblers'. Graphite acts as a lubricant and can slow the "wear" process greatly.
