04 Dodge 1500 Brakes
I have new pads on all 4 tires and the car is still vibrating when applying the brakes. The rotors are not scored or pitted. There is no feedback on the brake pedal like there should be if the rotors where warped. Any ideas? All rotors are withing turning spec. Should I have them turned? Or take to dealer to see if there is a problem with the 4 wheel anti-lock brakes (still withing extended Dodge warranty)?

Re: 04 Dodge 1500 Brakes
When you apply the brakes does it feel like the vibration is coming from the front or from the rear?
Does you truck have 4 wheel disc brakes or drum brakes in the rear? If the rotors or drums are warped in the rear you may not always feel the pulsation in the brake pedal. You may not always feel that pulsation in the front either. It may also be a problem with the anti-lock brakes. The only way to tell for sure if the rotors or drums are warped is to measure them with a dial indicator. Not a tool most people have. The cost of a good dial indicator could be as much as getting the rotors and drums turned at a local parts store or shop. Also wouldnt hurt to have a nice clean cut rotor or drum under your new pads or shoes. I would start with checking your rotors or brake drums before condeming the anti-lock brake system. warped rotors and drums are normally the problem with a vibration when applying the brakes. |
