nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
Hello, I have nissan that seems to be heating up within about 10 minutes or at least that is what the guage is saying, I checked the fluid level on the coolant and it is ok and i have not seen any leaks, the belts are ok and dont see any leaking coming from the water pump. I just replaced the thermostat and usually that is the problem when this happens because of the thermostat getting stuck in the closed position but when i replaced the thermostat the gauge in the car still is indicating that it is heating up not sure what the problem is maybe the fault is in the gauge....any ideas

Yeah so i was just talking to my friend and this is his car who that is having the problem and asked him if the fan was working on radiator, and it is not, so that must be the relay, and i do not know how to remove it does anyone know how to do so?

I think the relay would be in a fuse box in the engine compartment, when you uncover the fuses, you should see on the cover the usage of the individual relays and fuses purposes.
If not, on there then I would get a book or visit the libray and look into their haynes/chilton, whichever, and then look it up there. If the fuse/relay is good, then you may need to check the fan if it still works or not

Re: nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
Yeah i was trying to look some stuff up in some books that i have about the relay
And it would run hot when i took it for a drive i didnt even run it that fast 50 tops maybe and it seemed to be fine in the first five minutes and then a little bit later the gauge would get up to the hot side to max so the fan could just be apart of the problem maybe the water pump isnt working correctly or a clog in the radiator or radiator hoses....could be alot of other things causes it to heat up |

Re: nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
well, i was looking it up and found that your car can/could have up to 3 fan relays. I think they are in the relay box that would be located by the passenger fender near the reservoir by the strut tower. there could be 12 relays in it, 2x6.
lets say that you are looking at it from the front of the car and see 2 columns, starting from the front of the car to the rear left column could be consisted in the following order, if applied 1 - Horn 2 - Cooling Fan No.1 3 - Inhibitor (A/T Models) 4 - Clutch Interlock (M/T Models) 5 - Air Conditioner 6 - Multi-Remote Control No.1 Right column could be consisted in the following order, if applied 1 - Cooling Fan No. 2 2 - Horn No.2 3 - Cooling Fan No.3 4 - Theft Warning Lamp 5 - Theft Warning 6 - Front Fog Lamp there is one other thing that I want to point out, there was a Plymouth Breeze that I had worked on, it was a pain to change out the thermostat and after all that, it didn't fix the problem. My friend just absent-mindedly squeezed the radiator hose and fluid came out at the cap of the radiator. Please inspect the cap, and ensure that it is in good working condition with a good seal. Sometimes it is that easy, but check that cap, since I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

If your vehicle is running hot riding down the road the fan is most likely not the problem. Your fans should not be running as your driving. Unless your using your a/c or its really hot and the air coming through your radiator isnt enough to keep it cool your fan should not run while driving. few things to check. radiator stopped up. Either something blocking the cooling fins for internal blockage. make sure lower radiator hose is not sucking flat. water pump. And the bad thing/ head gasket.

Yeah i was just hoping it would be something simple i guess i could try flushing the radiator and check the condition of the radiator, and i hope its not a head gasket

Re: nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
okay from your 2nd post in this thread, you said the fan didn't work. Has this ever come on yet? Because it seems to me that somehow we are avoiding that particular information from the other posts.
So let's revisit this. Does the car have A/C? If so, does the fan come on when the A/C is on? When you say heating up, how high does it go? does it leave the Normal area and into the hot range or get that much higher than 200 or 220 if it is a numerical gauge? A car will still get hot and require the fan to come on, especially during the summer months, about the only time it won't is when you are maintaining a higher speed, or if there is something that continues to help cool the car down that was not actually the way it's suppose to be. I.e., you are sitting in a drivethrough and you order food, and you wait roughly 5 minutes, the fan will come on probably twice during this time. So, I would like to know, have you actually gotten the fan to even operate?

Re: nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
Yeah I checked it out the fan works fine...I turned on the ac, checked the condition of the radiator the fins are not bent or clogged up
I did however find the culprit, the belt that runs the power steering pump and water pump is very loose so the water pump and power steering pump are not able to operate there fore the coolant is unable to circulate through the engine. I tried to tighten the belt with the belt tensioner however it was not working the belt must be really worn out or there is a problem the belt tensioner |

Re: nissan 200sx 1995 1.6 liter heats up in about 5-10minutes
After reading your last post more info is needed:
How long have you had the car and who has done previous maintenance? If the car is a recent purchase remove the belt and take it to to an auto parts dealer to have it compared with a new replacement for size. If the belt shows signs of wear or has cracks, forget the comparison and just get a new belt. Is the tensioner automatic or is it manually adjusted? If it is manual then a new belt should take care of the problem (provided it is the proper size). If it is automatic (spring loaded), check for movement of the full range. The tensioner should move smoothly but have considerable resistance. If it has little or no resistance then it needs to be replaced or checked for rust and seizing. Perhaps it needs to be lubricated? If it needs "lubed" make sure you keep the lubrication away from any belt contact points (the actual pully the belt rides on). Good luck and keep us informed. |
