So I get in it today and it went backwards but at the same time, it started making sounds like it was about to die (cut off)
So I put it in drive and it would hardly move. My van doesn't go backwards at all and hardly forwards. Does anyone know what this might be? |

Re: I need some help with my van
You don't say what kind of van or year it is - GM, Ford etc, but it sounds like your transmission pump cavitated. That is - the vanes on it collapsed, and without hydraulic pressure to th tranny the vehicle will not move.
he other thing it could be is a bad Torque Converter - the inner set of splines that drive the pump sometimes just strip immediately and no longer turn the pump and you get a similar effect. It will create a whirring sound usually. If it is a GM with a 4 speed tranny like a 700R4 or 4L60E, the sun shell can break but usually you will still get first and second gear ( See http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-035823ahd.htm ) NONE of these are easy fixes, and the sun shell means a tranny rebuild completely, but the bad torque converter is the easiest and cheapest fix if you have someone do it yourself in the driveway etc. It still means taking out the tranny. The easiest thing to do is find a replacement tranny from a WRECKED vehicle in the bone yard and swap it out. A WRECKED vehicle means the tranny was working good likely when it was sent to the bone yard. ![]() |

Re: I need some help with my van
Nope, I never had it worked on unless it was the tires. But that's been months ago. I think I've had the oil changed a few times. It has a oil leak that I didn't know about when I bought it. I've only had it a little over 1 yr. I just paid it off in Feb.
Although the pipe under the van broke, my father took it off because it was kind of hanging there and it wasn't really needed anymore. I don't think it has nothing to do with that though. The van just sucks. |

Re: I need some help with my van
haha well if its not worth fixing the local metal recycle yard would be happy to give you cash for it. scrap metal is going high theese days and vans usually bring over 400 here for scrap. take the battery off of it too and they will pay you for it seperate (around 7 bucks but better than just giving it to them) also the converter(s) are worth anywhere from 15 some up too 150 each.
but it never fails once its paid off something always goes wrong. Bud. |

Re: I need some help with my van
Well, thanks. It seems as though I'll have to wait until Sept to get another car. My father works for Advance, and he's the boss, so I told him to ask around for me. But hey, Who's to say they won't get off on me too?
