Re: 95 Chevy Cavalier

If you mean hot like the temp. Gauge is going all the way up, then I'm sure there will be something that will shut down the car and not let you restart it till the engine has cooled off. This would be a safty device so you don't destroy the engine or limits the chance of that anyway.

If it is getting that hot then I would look at the fan, raditor, etc. To see where there is a problem.

If the car shuts off when the gauge is only about half way between the hot and cold or around there, it is possible there is a bad sensor somewhere or something else triggering something that should tell the car to shut off or forcing it to.

If the check engine let is on any time besides when you are about to start the car, you can go to most auto parts places to have the codes read for free (just ask about that first since some do check). Also do this if the check engine light never comes on as this can be a burnt out light and the light might really be on (and also replace the bulb when you can).

also. As for this site, please create a new thread each time there is a new problem so that it is easier to track each problem for the people who want to help and also easier on the people who are trying to look up any information that may help them.
Also again please be careful as to where you post your problems, this is the car audio section, while there is another section meant more for car repair.

You would get the best help if you repost your problem with more details in the right section of the forum.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

Re: 95 Cavalier - shuts off when it gets hot

if it shuts off when the engine is hot but not over heated and restarts after it cools the normal problem with that engine is usually the cranksensor on the backside of the engine. Have done diagnostics on many of those chevy's with the same condition and found that to be the problem with all of them. they usually develop a hairline crack in them malfunction when they get hot.
