96 pontiac sunfire won't go faster than 15

I can get my 96 sunfire to go any faster that 15mph it is a 2.2l auto. Any help would be nice.

Does one of your dashboard lights say "Reduced Engine Power"?

Is it running rough,making strange noises,trans slipping etc?For some reason,with this amount of info,a clogged cat.converter comes to mind.

exactly what i was thinking. my trans am did the same thing. had my cat cut off, ran fine.
does it REV really high in first gear? (if stick) does it bogged down when you switch into second gear?

No lights light up on the dash, the car doesn't seem to carry on or make any weird sounds. My dad thinks maybe a vacuum line of some kind. Could this be possible? I don't know what speed sensors are, could this be it?

right off the top of my head it sounds like a plugged up catalytic converter.

I want to thank everyone for their help. I had a friend come over a test drive it for me. He told me the trans. is starting to slip when it tries to shift.
I was wondering how hard it would be to pull the trans and replace it? Does it drop out the bottom or top, and do I have to pull the motor with it?

Very well said,Budfan8.Also a good jack and good safety stands will help greatly.You don't want to wear your car.It's awfully embarissing and hurts too.
