93 Grand Cherokee Limited electrical problem
I've got a 93 Grand Cherokee Limited straight six. I replaced the battery less than 6 months ago. It has always shown between 16 to 19 volts on the voltmeter on the dash when running. Now it is barely turning the starter over. It measure at the battery 12.8 volts with everything off and 17.6 volts when running. Shouldn't a fully charged battery read about 13.2 volts? The cables and connectors are in excellent shape--no corrosion. Could the voltage regulator be faulty? Is it in the altenator itself? I appreciate any ideas on this.

Re: 93 Grand Cherokee Limited electrical problem
you can have a million volts running through anything...wont make a bit of difference. You need "AMPS" for power. Showing what you have in volts is pointless. The amps are what turns you vehicle over. Note, when volts are measured in your home, your breakers control amperage, not voltage...get my meaning?..Try a new battery and get your charging system tested as I'm figuring you're getting no amperage and to much voltage. Hense the so many cranking amps listed on the battery
