Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have an 05 kia spectra 2.0, had a bad timing problem and had to replace all valves, the head was sent to a mechanic shop and it was installed. after starting the car i noticed either a low oil pressure or low fuel pressure, a week later on my way to dyno i changed into fifth gear and the car stoped... i tryed to turn the crank by hand and i didnt move, i removed the spark plugs and still would not move, i removed the head and the valves seem fine, the crank moves on 4th gear and 3rd gear with the head removed when moving the the car back and forth. im not shure if it is suposed to move on neutral... i know where to get an engine for 800 to 1000, but i just want to make shure the engine is really done for, or if is just the block or could it be the transmission? (when i removed the head i forgot to drain the coolant from the radiator, colant got to the pistons some how)

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't diagnose your problem from the info you provided.... it could be the motor, tranny, clutch or any of those other things. But don't worry about the coolant you spilled into the cylinders. That's the least of your problems. Just sop it up, let it dry, drain the oil from the pan, then refill with new.

And no, the motor should NOT rotate if you push the car with tranny in neutral.

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'am told be the "experts" it only take 1 once of coolant in the oil to do severe damage. You have to take that with a grain of salt but you get there point. From what you say sounds like it's done. The crank should move even if it moves the car in gear.
Good luck , Cardoc

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if the cranks turning with the head off then something on the head would be indicated as jamming it
check the lifters

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no metal in oil, no bent valves, no holes on pistons or any visual damage on the block, i didnt removed the oil pan to check because the crank moves now... so i cleaned up and put the head back, the timing belt in back on... everything moves now... would it be a change of getting this to work? i mean i thought that if the crank doesnt move the engine was bad.. but somehow it moves now, not very smooth but theres not much oil in the car yet... the motor still good? something loose on the crank? the middle pistons go up and down together and the other two go up and down also (if there was something bent, would the go up and down together?) water pump or something? i mentioned the transmission because the car died at 5th gear. can a bad clutch had locked the engine?
i had installed a stage 2 clutch on this car about six months before it died...

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

spun bearing? if you had spun a bearing and it locked the motor up usually a connecting rod breaks or bends but if the clutch slipped maybe it didnt. rocking the car in gear could have freed it up and maybe that is why it isnt "moving smooth".

my advise is if you are spending the money pulling the head and all it may be worth going ahead and taking the oil pan off to check the main and rod bearings for damage.

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yea, it could be that i spun a bearing and the motor locked... i tryed starting the car today, it turns but wont start, and i hear it backfireing when it turns. if i spun a bearing would it prevent the car from starting.. im gonna check the timing one more time, and ill post a video of the sound next week before i drop the oil pan..

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the engine is turning over it should fire as long as your timing is correct. If you have had the head off and the valves replaced could be your valve adjustment. The valves could not be sealing or if the valve is bent it could have worn out your cam shaft, broke a valve spring.

I would check the compression, it could tell you what is wrong.

I think if you spun a bearing the engine would be really hard to turn over.

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, i played with the timing and the car started, theres definitely something wrong with it, cuz like you said it backfires and the engine moves abnormally, could it be the oil? valves where replaced couple of weeks before the car died... when i removed the head the valves loocked good. i was able to move the car after it started(i think the clutch its doing its job)
im hearing some knocking .. i also had a little smoke...its time for a new engine , unless the problem is on the head of the motor.?.

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder if it could be the cam gear. Maybe the key is damaged. Why did the engine die the first time you said it was a timing issue. Did the issue get fixed ?

If the head was rebuilt then the burning oil is from the bottom end. Best bet would be a complete overhaul or a new engine which ever is cheapest.

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Morning bor1cua, your description could indicate a conrod bearing has "picked up" and that could explain what is happening.

It is possibly resulted in a bent con-rod and that would produce the knocking and erratic running.

I would suggest pulling the plugs and doing a complete compression pressure check, that should give a clue as to what might be happening.

Carefully note all cylinder pressures and compare to specs.

Others will have different ideas.

Cheers, qldit.

Hi bor1cua,

How did you get the car home when it locked up going to dyno?
The pistons are not susposed to move when in neutral and rocking the car.

I just saw your second post, looks like it is not a transmission problem.
I was thinking it might have been sticking in two gears when it stopped on the way to dyno.

Anyway, hope you find a fix.

Just noticed your other post, forget the

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this i how my car sounds http://www.dropshots.com/bor1cua#
the timing belt looks like it wants to come out....
what do you think?

Re: Need HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi bor1cua,

If it were a Ford or Cheve, I'd say that a hydraulic lifter had collapsed. Can you tell how much oil pressure you have? Can you run it with the valve cover off? If it is one valve, you might be able to isolate it using a feeler gauge.

I couldn't tell about the timing belt form the video.

Just a thought.

Good luck,
Macl1
