Mazda 626 year 2000
Hi,
my mazda engine light is on and had it checked and was told it is running lean. The mechanic is not able to find out what the problem is. Should I take it to a Mazda dealer they will charge 160.00 to take a look at it and tell me what is wrong I just want to know if they will be able to fix it since my guy could not find out what is wrong I do not want to be replacing parts that do not need it |

Re: Mazda 626 year 2000
Hi janis4265 and welcome to TSF
![]() If you are thinking of repairing your own vehicle, you should buy a scan tool. They don't cost that much these days with all the competition. Some auto parts stores will scan it for free (they hope to sell parts). I know AutoZone does and I think others do also. You can look up the scan code on the internet and it will tell you what that code means. Last time I had the Check Engine Light, the scan tool gave me a code that said it was the oxygen sensor on the left manifold exhaust. I changed it and the light went away. Regards Mack1

Re: Mazda 626 year 2000
Hi janis4265,
I guess the Mazda codes aren't as informative as the USA codes. On the surface, it sounds like a good thing if the car is running good. Lean mixture means less gas usage. If it is running good, it probably is just a sensor(wish the code had indicated which one) and not a problem with the car. What was the code number, might be able to get a little more information on the problem from friends. Mack1

Re: Mazda 626 year 2000
Good Morning Gentlemen, it may be an idea to get to the bottom of the problem with relative concern.
As an engine begins to run "lean" the cylinder head temperatures can increase and if a long run is taken, may have a tendency to "burn" the exhaust valves. I would suggest obtaining the specific "Haynes" type manual for that vehicle and it should contain a procedure and explanation of what may be causing the problem. It may be caused by any number of reasons including a vacuum system drawing in air from a leak or a system component malfunction. They are a nice little vehicle and a nice engine in those machines. Others will have different ideas. Cheers, qldit. |
