[SOLVED] 97 Dodge intrepid leaking gas

My car is leaking near the rear of the car where the gas tank hose meets the fuel filter. It looks like its leaking from the plastic conector thing right before the gas filter. It leaks worse when my car is on.

Welcome to TSF and our Automotive section!
Has the fuel filter been replaced or the car driven over any extreme terrain lately?

Re: 97 Dodge intrepid leaking gas

You know I thought I heard something hit underneath my car on the freeway the day that I started smelling gas. I was thinking of just replacing the fuel filter since it needs it anyway and seeing if it still leaks. Im just worried its the little plastic connector cause I don't know what its called or if its easily replacable. My Haynes books refers to the part as black plastic fuel line connector fitting or the fuel filter inlet connector.

Re: 97 Dodge intrepid leaking gas

Is there any way you may be able to post a picture of the fuel filter and the connector on your car? Hopefully it didn't damage the line running into the filter...if so that may not be an easy fix.

Re: 97 Dodge intrepid leaking gas

Ok I figured it out. The connector I was talking about is like a quick disconnect that is part of the gas hose assembly its leaking/broken. I found the replacement gas hose assembly on kragen. 23 bucks not bad. I just read that I dont have to lower the gas tank to replace. There is an access to the fuel pump in the trunk under the carpet. nice. Thanks for the help.
