Re: 94 z28 comaro
Hi bored_txs_man Welcome to TSF
It will be either the oil pump or the oil pickup may have came off. This would require the removing the oil pan. Most rebuilders will tack weld the tube to the oil pump but the factory does not.

Re: 94 z28 comaro
This may sound silly, but does it still have oil in it? Here's a good site for you:

Re: 94 z28 comaro
Also could be a spun connex rod or main bearing. Debris from that can clog the works and yield zero oil pressure. Happened to me on a 1987 Z-28 after a "spirited", but fully automatic shift, run from a red light. Luckily that motor was still under warranty at the time.

Re: 94 z28 comaro
yes there is still oil in it i checked that when i realized i didnt have any oil pressure. I took it to the shop when it started tapping and they are sayin its gonna cost me about 4g to get a new motor. I didnt think it was that bad anyone have any ideas where i can get a cheaper motor if that really is the problem???

Re: 94 z28 comaro
Go to the site I linked to. There are some very good Camaro/Firebird people there. Look in their for sale area and see if anyone has an engine for sale. They can also tell you who has the best prices on reman engines, as well as aftermarket engines.

Re: 94 z28 comaro
You probably have wasted some bearings as I mentioned above. But you'd be surprised how long it will run like that, even with no, or very little, oil pressure. In my case I was 1000 miles from home on a vacation. It blew up on a Saturday afternoon so no way to get worked on and I needed to be back at work Monday. So I drove it home going 60-65 mph all the way. Straight to the dealer who popped in a new motor. So don't let them rush you into a $4k job. Used or reman LT1s should be pretty easy to come by for a lot less than that, including labor.
The site Bruiser recommended is a good one. Here is another national f-body site with links to several Tx regional groups. http://www.f-body.org/ And here is one of my tech reference favorites for LT1 f-bodies. Lots of schematics and how-tos. http://shbox.com/page/index.html Good luck! Last edited by Raylo; 03-18-2008 at 07:03 PM. |

Re: 94 z28 comaro
Yep, don't let them rush you into a 4K job. If you want your engine rebuilt, check some local machine shops. They should be able to do it for less than that. Of course there's labor involved in pulling and installing the engine, unless you can do it yourself. Maybe I should have said dropping the engine. LOL
You might google on gm crate engines, or LT1 crate engines and see what you find. |
