2002 dodge 1500 no marker lights working

The truck was at a dealer and was told the fuse box was bad and it was over 600 to fix it. Not sure if this is true or not.I never heard of a fuse box going bad for no reason. It looks good and there is good fuses in it. any other reasons all the maker light will go out. the fuses are marked for rear only and there is a R and a L No fuse for the front I have lost all marker lights.

Thanks

Pete

Re: 2002 dodge 1500 no marker lights working

Good Afternoon polockpete40, I am assuming what you refer to as "marker lights" are the same as what we call "clearance lights" and are those that are placed around the preiphery of the truck, and usually all one colour, probably orange.

Now there would probably be a dozen of these lights in total and the would be powered from a single source, possibly from the fuse block in the cab.

Generally they only have a single wire going to each lamp in a continuous run and the lamp sockets are all earthed to chassis or similar kind of arrangement.

Now the wattage of each lamp is probably something like 8 to 12 watts, so collectively this would equate dependent on the amount of lamps to something like a 150 watts total and probably use a 20 or 25 amp fuse in that supply line.

The circuit would likely originate from the in cab fuse block and then pass to the light switch and then to the lights.

It is possible a relay is used to supply power to these lights and that is separately fused, but operated from your normal lighting circuit to ease the switch loading.

Is there any chance you might obtain a schematic circuit diagram of the system, it would be very helpful.

Alternatively you need to trace the wiring back from the lamps to see how it is configured.

I doubt the fuse block is the problem but quite often the actual wiring off the back of that block uses spade connectors with crimped wires and these connections overheat and fail.

It may be worth obtaining a simple voltmeter and determining if there is any voltage present anywhere along that lighting circuit, it is possible that the connection at the first lamp in the series has a defective connection where the ongoing wiring connects.

If there is a relay involved you will need to see if there is voltage applied to it, there may be another under hood fuse that you are missing, in that there is a R and L fuse it is possible there could be 2 relays, but again they would likely be fused in the engine bay if that were the case, the relays if used may even be located there.

Sorry no real help.

Others will have different ideas.

Cheers, qldit.
