96 VW jetta

I have a 96 jetta I have just purchased 4cylinder trek limeted edition. 96,000 miles . the transmission slips a little and I went to check the trans. oil, however there is no place proviede to check it! I then find out that the owners manuel says that it should only be the dealership to do this. I checked a coulple of dealerships...$100 to add oil $300 to change oil. I bought this car to save money..surprise!
Is there any way that I can do this myself?

Get a Haynes or Chilton manual and see what it has to say on that...also found this that may help you out as well.
