VW1835 sandrail

When the throttle is fully engaged the engine bogs out. We have adjusted the dual carbs as much as possible but are in need of help.

Re: VW1835 sandrail

a few more details would help in diagnosing your problem. could be many things too much fuel, not enough fuel, not enough air into the engine.......

was it running good before or did you just get it as is? have you changed the fuel jets? fuel line have a dry rottet rubber line? fuel pump pressure ok? have you changed the air filter? is the exaust escapeing the motor properly?

the more details you give the faster you will find your answer there are alot of smart and helpfull guys here that can help you get it fixed but we rely on your imput since we are not there to test this stuff ourselves.

Re: VW1835 sandrail

The guy we got it from said it had been sitting for a while and it had ran good then. The fuel pump has been replaced, the carbs have been cleaned and a new gasket was put on. It is a 40 IDF 43 23 dual carb on a 1835 engine. I don't know what year the engine is. It runs but when it is at about a 1\4 throttle it bogs out. They were looking in the carb and it looks like the fuel doesn't spray out evenly. We are planning on getting a rebuild kit for it and try that. It will idle ok and we have tried adjusting the screws all the way in and then slowly adjusting them out.

Re: VW1835 sandrail

Hi jonestanya

It sounds like standard fuel restriction. It probably has an inline fuel filter that needs replacing. Some filters won't allow water to pass through. It might be a case of condensation collecting in the fuel tank during storage.

Also, those screws you adjusted are normally for idle adjustment. I'm not that familiar with VW, but internal jets control higher speed fuel flow on older american automobiles.

Regards,
