2002 Accord Blower Fan

My Accord's blower fan will work in the upper settings (3 & 4), but when I turn the dial down to 1 or 2 there is nothing. Is there a simple fix to this problem?

Good Morning kmcclary, this kind of problem is a real nuisance when it happens and can be a much bigger nuisance to fix.

It is possible that your fan speed control switch has simply developed a problem but even removing that control panel to examine the switch can be difficult.

Previously the fan speed was controlled with either different windings in the actual fan motor or a selectable resistance in the motor circuit, or both, but your machine may now include a solid state device in that circuit.

Any work involved in locating and fixing this problem will I suggest be extremely time consuming and pretty involved, from memory even removing that heater control panel is a pretty involved job.

I would suggest living with the problem.

Others will have different ideas.

same problem on 1999 Accord LX.
Fan works in position 3 & 4 only.

if you have 1 or two setting but not all of them the normal problem is the blower motor resistor. It is normally located in your blower housing around you blower fan. The resistor is normally held in with two screws. only the plug end of the resistor shows. The rest is inside the blower housing. The fan blows air past this resistor to cool it. it should have 3 or 4 small coils of wire made to it and you may find 1 or to of those coils burned and seperated.

I ended up having the dealership do the work since my extended warranty would cover it. It was the resistor. It ended up being about $130 and the part cost was over half of that. It was worth it though, I quite enjoy my lower setting just to keep the air moving. I couldn't have lived with it like that personally. Good luck to anyone else with this problem and thank you to all for the advice!
