Re: 1990 silverado ruff idle
Good Evening bigchevyman, actually an arcing battery lead should not really have affected anything because the system would have been unpowered.
I would suggest dosing the tank with injector cleaner and filling it with premuim unleaded fuel and seeing if that had any effect after a week or so. By the way it might be an idea to edit your email address from your post or request one of the admins to do it for you, you may otherwise get a load of unsolicited rubbish. Cheers, qldit. |

Re: 1990 silverado ruff idle
Good Morning bigchevyman, actually that problem could be caused by a number of things, leaky or sticky injectors, egr valve leaking, an ignition problem, vacuum system leakage or some other sensor that is not operating properly.
I would suggest at this point to access and read the computer codes and see if they might give a clue to the problem. For such a difference in power loss there should be something quite evident. Is there any possibility that arc that happened may have involved the O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold? Others will have different ideas. Cheers, qldit. |

Re: 1990 silverado ruff idle
Good Afternoon bigchevyman, yes, the ignition timing may have shifted, if the distributor may have moved, but you will need the timing procedure for that vehicle and a timing light to reset it properly.
One of the Haynes manuals would be very handy to give that information. I am not familiar with that vehicle, quite obviously it is fuel injected but obviously it has a distributor. Ensure the vacuum system has no leaks anywhere before getting too involved. If the spark-plug leads are original it may be an idea to replace them they do deteriorate significantly over time and can cause odd problems like this also. Change the spark plugs while you are at it. Carefully inspect the distributor cap for any signs of arcing and condition, do a complete visual inspection of all those ignition components. It doesn't take much to knock the guts out of those engines. Cheers, qldit. |
