Re: 1995 honda oddessy front wheel bearings
Good Evening xavier, that is quite a job, may I ask what the nature of the problem actually is?
The reason I am asking is because chances are you may have a constant velocity joint problem. Cheers, qldit. |

qldit:
thanks for the reply. At road speeds 55-70 there is an harmonic howl; specifically a howling then it stops then howls not a loud howl but noticable, in 1 - 3 second intervals if it has to be pressed in it is above my capabilities, however I was hoping that it might be more simple. making ends meet in PA Xavier |

Re: 1995 honda oddessy front wheel bearings
Good Afternoon xavier, yes it will need to be pressed into the carrier.
You may be able to use a suitable brass drift to remove it but they are usually pretty tight! You will need to dismantle the entire suspension parts and this will require a spring compressor and a decent socket to undo the axle nut. (they are usually tight, tight, tight!) If you inspect the CV joint boots and any are split, I would suggest considering replacing the CV joints at the same time. Often this is a good time for brake pads also, and the extra activity may involve hoses. If you do have wheel bearing problems it will also cause excessive brake pad wear. Is there any clicking when full-lock turning or clicking when shifting gears at rest? That kind of effect can also actually be caused by those CV joints, often it may be vibration at speed which is throttle dependent. There are two bearings involved and it can be a critical job setting them back up. Nothing is simple on front wheel drives. There was a post on this site recently for maintenance manuals online (PDF's) if you are the right religion you may find that post handy. Check the past couple of weeks posts in this area. Cheers, qldit. |

Re: 1995 honda oddessy front wheel bearings
Xavier, a quick note to add - Just to make sure its a wheel bearing. Wheel bearings noises will get quieter and louder depending on which side is bad and the direction you're turning. Example, for a left front wheel bearing - if you turn left it should get quieter and if you turn right it should get louder. And the opposite for a right front wheel bearing. But if it still sounds relatively the same in both directions then you will probably end up replacing both wheel bearings.
