Grinding start - '87 Jeep Cherokee

Hey folks,

Well ... I've had this problem for at least a year now but lately it's been getting worse...it seems to get especially worse when it's hot. When I start it, right after it turns over there is this loud horrendous grinding sound. It's so loud that it's almost embarrassing to start it when I'm out and about! LOL!

I replaced the starter a few weeks ago and the alternator was replaced about 2 years ago or so.

Other than that starting problem, it runs like a champ.

Nevermind...figured it out...there aren't any shims between the starter and the engine block.
