No fire on 2000 Malibu
Daughter's car. Got in it this morning and engine turns over, gas coming to the engine but no fire. Was going to go and get an ignition control as suggested by auto parts store but don't have any idea where the darn thing is on the car or even if that's the problem. Any suggestions?

Re: No fire on 2000 Malibu
Good Morning LOGOSHOE, that is interesting, I am not familiar with that machine and am assuming it is completely EFI, and electronic gizmos, so in that you have fuel pressure it kind of suggests that the EFI system is properly powered, it indicates the pump control relay is functioning and it is normally powered from the EFI power circuit, but you might check the underdash fuse panel fuses, especially the IGN fuse or whatever it may be called on that machine.
There is most likely a control relay for the EFI system that may cause your problem, but that is a guess. Do you have any light on the dash? (engine check etc.) Is the vehicle fitted with an ingnition immobiliser system (anti-theft device) it is possible the thing may have triggered somehow. One thing you could try is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect it, in some cases that does amazing things and allows errant logic circuits to reset, we are almost getting into the area of needing a "reboot" switch on some of these vehicles! Examine the area near the front crankshaft, there is usually a sensor that detects engine rotation, if so check it's mounting and lead assy for properness. Loss of engine rotation info may stop ignition count. That is all I can think of that may be done without needing a wheelbarrow full of money. Sorry it is pretty basic. I would suggest getting one of the Haynes or similar service manuals for that model from your auto supermarket, there is usually a circuit shematic in the rear of them that shows clearly how the system is arranged with items named. Others will have different ideas. Cheers, qldit. |
