The air conditioner compressor is functional but will not engage. Can it be a relay or sensor, if so where do you start trouble shooting?

Re: 96 Ford Taurus LX
Hello bpfaffle!
And welcome to the forums! An air conditioner(clutch assembly) not engaging could be many things, usually it's not enough freon in the system to make it engage. If you buy a can of 134A try to get the cans that have the dye in them so If you have a slow leak you can find it with the dye. Usually if the blower isn't working properly, then it's a relay problem IE. where you have the blower working only on lower speeds but none of the high settings. If the high speed settings are working but not the lower than it's a resistor in the blower assembly. Hope we have helped you, if so let us know.

Re: 96 Ford Taurus LX
Good Morning bpfaffle, chances are your system will contain a pressure switch on or near the dryer, this functions to stop the system to operate if the system gas pressure is low.
The compressor clutch is electrically operated and is inhibited in that particular case. Cheers, qldit. |
