cable troubles
Is there a place where i can get just a cable for a window regulator, without getting a whole new assembly? I mean i dont want to waste 80 bucks for a new assembly when i know its just the cable that got messed up. Yet all i can find are motors or assemblies for a ford probe 89. where neither the track nor the motor are messed up. But when i tried rigging up a bike brake cable to the system i couldnt get the proper fit to the ends so that it would not pop off once i have it all put together. i mean putting clamps to the ends interferes with the gear assembly in the motor and after two seconds it just pulls out anyways, regardless of how tight. and off course doing it myself putting sleeves back onto the cable is pretty rediculous as well. any sites or places someone knows of.

Re: cable troubles
Good Morning jmstapleton14, for what it is worth, I normally use either a suitable motor cycle or bicycle cable and make a suitable end piece for it out of a piece of a bolt nicely drilled or whatever, then use a small careful silver solder or silver braze to attach the end, this requires a moment or two using an oxy-acetylene torch. 15% silver solder is the best for this task, it is easily available from plumbing distributors.
Be careful not to "cook" the cable if you do this. Any motor workshop or welding place should be able to do this for you at little cost. It is substantially cheaper than buying original parts. Cheers, qldit. |
