leaking some oil
Someone pointed out to me the other day that my car was leaking oil, and sure enough on my way home I could see the visible trail of oil droplets on the road. Now I think this has just started happening this past week, and was wondering if getting an oil change will fix the probelm? I don't know why it is leaking, it may have something to do with when my dad and I changed the oil in July, we dented the oil filter a little.

idk kno if a oil change will fix it....i would look at the oil pan for cracks and so forth....i dont think a dent in the filter will cause a issue unless their is a hole...i would put the car on ramps or jack and turn the car on and try to find were its dripping....

check the oil pan gasket and look for cracks in the pan, the transmission gasket, also check for leak spots along the headgasket and valve cover.

also look at the point where the dipstick meets the pan, that is a common place as well, and if none of those work, you might have a bad rear main seal, and that would suck

How much would that cost to get fixed? I think it fixed itself though, cause I haven't notcied any more driupping. But one weird thing is that sometimes my oil light will come on for a few moinutes, then shut off for hours or the rest of the day

car is a 94 buick century
For the past 2 weeks, it seems that the oil was running out fast. I first noticed when the car would make like churning type sounds from under the hood whenever you gave it gas. I checked oil and it was below the add line, so I put a quart in. 3 days later same thing, so this time I put 2 quarts in, which put it pretty fair above the add line. about 3 days later it down past the add line again. put 2 more quarts in, which was about a week ago, plus got the oil changed today, and the mechanic asked if I knew that I had a full tank of oil, so it sounds like the problem has stopped. plus the mechanics didn't say anything about leaking oil. |

Keep a close eye on your oil level and for puddles underneath. I can't remember specifically what car it is but at least one has a rear main seal that has a notch in a metal ring-when the engine is running, the ring will revolve- when the notch in the metal reaches a certain point, oil will pour out very quickly until it revolves away from the point
