Racing harnesses
Hi,
Is there any way to put a racing harness in the car without removing the rear seats? Thanks in advance Chris |

you can put a bolt in the subframe underneath the car, and then drill a hole in the floor... umm, i can think of a few ways, but i would have to know what kind of car exactly you want, and then research the frames

if you dont have a cage or roll bar dont get harnesses.
if u have harnesses and dont have a cage (unless they are safety retractable ones) then if the car flips the roof will crush and u cant move any where and the roof will crush u. thers the harness bars which u can mount behind the seats or bolt it to the floor but like i said up top no good unless caged ;)

no offense fr4, but it would take a mad rollover to crush the roof that much, and harnesses are plenty safe, in fact, i would say much safer than a normal harness if only because you have more straps, and all certified harnesses come with a quick release for safety.

Are You putting the harnesses in for the rear seats? Otherwise I've never had to remove the rear seat. I assume Your talking about a 5 point harness. I disagree about the crush factor, some cars have very weak A pillars. The crossbar idea brownievtech had is a good one, or You could build an upside down V right behind the seat to attach the shoulder portion to. The two halves of the lap belt attach in pretty much the same way as an OEM belt in older cars. The submarine belt connects just under the front in the middle of the drivers seat, through the floorboard. use a plate about 6 inch square to keep it from pulling through. Now, I have a question. Why do You want/need this? If Your going to do some racing that requires a harness, there are VERY specific methods of installation in order to pass tech. secondly I know of no sanctioning body that requires a harness before a rollbar.
If Your into some spirited driving (hopefully safely as possible) and need to stay planted in Your seat for control issues(please do these things without passengers) there is an excellent low buck solution. Go to the salvage yard and get another shoulder belt assembly(don't forget the floor receiver part) then install it on the inside(middle) side of your seat. the roof will have support beams to anchor the slide bracket to. Crisscross them when latched. If You just want this to look cool, thats weak, I assure you that legitimate racers laugh at front wheel drive cars with rear wings. Please excuse Me if that last statement doesn't apply to you, if it does go ahead and waste your money while you devalue your vehicle. |

If the reason you are looking into racing harnesses is for street racing, please don't. Racing should be left on the track, not on the streets where other civilians' lives are put into danger. If not, I'm curious why you want harnesses? (Looks?)

lol, ya some cars have a weak a-pillar, but it has to pass at least some sort of crash testing to be put on the road, even most convertibles have something to help you in a roll over, because the autocompany gets taxed way bad if they ignore safety laws
and carsey, you are almost as safe with normal shoulder belts as with harnesses, but i agree, harnesses look way cooler
