Question 91' Ford Probe Transmission Replacement

I am going to replace the transmission on a Ford Probe 1991 model, if anyone has done this before and has any type of tips that can help me I would appreciate the help. The manuals can only tell you so much.

Well first things first, you got to find a transmission for cheap. Then if your going to do it I would suggest you find a friend that knows cars, or get someone else to do it. Transmissions are tricky. Also a lot of the times not even worth it. Ex older cars dont have a Kelly Blue Book value much higher than an actual transmission, makes it not even worth it. You can always get a decent car for 2k, usual cost of a transmission.

G4eat, crappy design to begin with. If this R&R is not performed absolutely correctly, it will not work properly. If You get a used one, make sure there is some major body damage to the donor car, preferably in the rear, and the fluid should be blood red and smell new. also must be from exact model.
There are many unrelated factors that can make this transmission malfunction. The car is probably not worth fixing. I've been in the transmission business since i was born, my father was a designer, then opened a repair shop, I opened my first transmission shop 23 yrs ago.

Re: 91' Ford Probe Transmission Replacement

Good Evening luquisr, the hardest part about difficult transmission removal and refitting is lack of confidence, address the work systematically by reading the manual directions and applying commonsense and then do it.

Remember it may be a difficult job but is never out of reach for a determined person.

Sorry I am not familiar with that vehicle but I have never struck a machine that was not fixable.

What is the problem with the transmission by the way?

I expect that is a front wheel drive machine.

Cheers, qldit.
