1990 suburban runs then dies
I have a 1990 suburban that will start and run for while and will die. When it dies you loose voltage to the dash. The shop checked it and told me the battery was bad so I replaced it and it's donig it again. Nothing inside the car will work (a/c vent, door locks ect.). I have replaced the battery 2 times and it does the same thing. The one thing it does do is if you let it sit for awhile it will start and run for awhile agian. I'm wondering if the starter siloid could be the problem. If you have any suggestions I'm all ears.

sounds like a corroded fusible link.
the fusebox is supplied by some wires that run to the solonoid, and on them is these things called fusible links. sometimes they are actually special wire, sometimes they are thin metal "straps" about 3 inches long. depending on your exact model, (i don't have a suburban book here) these will either be down connected to the starter, or on the firewall in a little box with a door that opens. they are either loose or corroded, because when they completely burn out, the power doesn't come and go like that. either that, or the wires are corroded where they plunge through the firewall, at which point you will need to replace a large peice of the wiring harness. post back about what you manage to find, in the meantime, i will try to locate a book. (i can't promise i will find one.)
