Speedometer cable clicking

Hey, it's me again!

I have a 1995 Ford Taurus SHO 5-speed. About a year ago the cable feeding the speedometer snapped and I had it replaced. Since then I can hear something of a grinding or churning noise when I go above 40Mph. It also seems the shake a bit when I drive at any speed. The tach is fine and so are the other dials on my dash. I was thinking of taking it apart and shooting some graphite dust down the line sleeve. Thoughts?

If there is an actual cable running down to your tranny from the speedometer there would be no harm in trying a bit of graphite to see if it helps.

Hi,

I have had that (when there is an actual cable) and graphite does the trick on those a good bit of the time. I used the type you use on locks that has a semi-liquid base, but either that or the dust type should do the job. What the heck can you lose?
