Ford Escort Brake lights

Hope anyone can helprear red lights dont come on whilst driving in the dark.
Any ideas where the relay is?

Define "RED" lights. Are you talking about the brake lights (come on bright red when brake pedel depressed) or marker lights? (on when lights are on)

There is no relay for the lights. If you have marker lights and no brake lights..this could be either a fuse issue or a bad brake light switch which is located at the top on the brake pedel. First..check the fuses and make sure the light fuse is not burnt out. Then use a 12V test light and see if you have 12v+ at the marker light. If so..check the light bulb itself and make sure it's not burnt out.

If I'm not mistaken there's an access panel in the trunk/hatchback for access to the lights.

Thanks for the reply.
Its the marker lights that are not on. Neither side are working.
I will check the bulbs, but i thought it strange that they both went. I rarely use the car in the dark, so it is possible they blew at different times.
