In that case it may not be possible to enable 48 bit LBA on your motherboard.

Re: How to copy your operating system from one hard drive to another

Thats what I was thinking. I bought the board back in 1999. It is based on 440BX chipset ABIT BE6 II This motherboard has been a champ over the years and just won't quit. It has gone from me to my father, to my sister, then to a good friend, and when they thought it blew up in a brownout they went and got a new one and gave the BE6 II back to me.

It sat in the corner for almost a year and one day I thought, why not see if I can get her going again so I put a used 13GB HD in it and it came right back to life. The WD 160GB was a steal of a deal so I grabbed it and tossed it in and then found your article here while doing a search so I didn't have to reload XP and all the drivers again....Gotta Love It!!

Re: How to copy your operating system from one hard drive to another

Shows how sturdy those things can be despite all the warnings about static etc. Just a shame about the LBA.
Yes, XXClone is a brilliant program. I've now got the Pro version and do incremental backups every night. It was a lifesaver yesterday when I messed up an Office 2007 installation. I've gone one further and got an external USB drive so I can alternate between drives. That way if a worst case scenario should happen (and they do) such as power failure during backup, I've got the other to fall back on.
Regards,
John.

No, I don't think I shall, not right now anyway. Flashing the BIOS three times before I got the right one was hairy enough for my nerves and 127GB is good enough for that system anyways. It is working sweet just as it is, I don't wanna mess with it anymore

Besides, I have bigger fish to fry now that all of the parts are in to build the newest addition to the network.

Thanks Alex. If you've got a second hard drive, this can help avoid what is, at least, an inconvenience and, at worse, a total disaster.

I can assure, it is well worth it. Why wait til your holidays; that might be too late? It is very quick to set up. You could do it in the time it takes to make one post in each of the Offline threads you subscribe to if you can drag yourself away and I'm sure we wouldn't even notice your absence.

Well John, I will be using Drive Image XML to restore a backup sometime soon, so I will give some feedback.

BTW, when I did a fresh install of XP previously, Drive Image XML worked flawlessly. So the issues I was having earlier were Windows-related.
