Running DOS (with sound) on P4 Systems
Before I get a P4 Motherboard with ISA slots (very hard to find)....
Have any of you guys ever gotten fully functional sound from DOS from either your onboard audio or a PCI sound card? I've tried "DOS Compatible" $15.00 PCI sound cards but they cause some kind of conflict which results lockups. Even the more expensice SB16 PCI did not work in DOS. The old Soundblaster ISA industry standard always seems to work, but as you all know the ISA slots are rare nowadays. Last edited by Armoredfist : 07-06-2005 at 09:26 AM. |

Why do you want to use DOS? I'm just curious.
If it is for some kind of development, then you can get a DOS emulator, rather than trying to boot into DOS.

....at speeds never before experienced by mankind!...with sound!!!...with a DB-15 joystick!!!!BTW: I know PCI soundcards are $5.00. I've tried them, most crash when using sound effects and music in DOS, unless you know of one that doesn't! It would be great if an onboard P4 Mobo worked in DOS. I just thought I'd ask. Why not use an emulator? A good one would be DosBox
You can run this particular one in fullscreen, and speed it up as much as you want. Also, sound works, afaik.

Re: Running DOS (with sound) on P4 Systems
There are still new motherboards with ISA slots, check out this link:
http://shop.soyousa.com/customer/pro...?productid=520 the above link is to the Soyo web site, but I know the board is available at lower prices on the internet. you shouldn't have problems with drivers
