CD bootable OS
Hey, I was wondering if any one had suggestions for a cd bootable os like linsipre live. I need somthing that doesnt need a HDD, but I also need something that would have better driver options for things like wireless.
Thanks, Sam |

Re: CD bootable OS
Ubuntu.
My main operating system is XP and I've got unbuntu installed in a separate partition and a virtual drive, and also sometimes use the Live CD. Obviously the installed versions on the hard drive are quicker, but the Live CD is very usable on a fast CD drive. All 3 versions detected my wireless, router, devices, etc straight away with no extra input or driver installs.

Re: CD bootable OS
Many current Linux distro's have Live CD and/or Live DVD's that you can download. Most won't need a HDD unless you want to save files. In many cases, you could probably use a USB Flash drive to save any files, but any user settings (like wallpaper, screen saver, etc) won't be saved between reboots. In addition to Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSUSE have Live CD/DVD's.

Re: CD bootable OS
Puppy Linux 4.1. I play around with Operating systems all the time( I'm retired, with nothing to do and all day to do it in) and have found Puppy 4.1 the best for several reasons. THE easiest install. The easiest Wireless setup(Graphical) The BEST Grub installer, the only one other than Beos that installs multiple drives. The easiest USB stick install. And best of all, its FAST!!!
Also it has one click install of its own packets. |
