Win7 64bit, graphics card not detected
I'm having trouble getting Windows 7 (64bit) to recognise my 8800GT graphics card, so it's stuck using the generic VGA mode.
I was reading some articles about installing graphics drivers in 7, and they say to use Windows Update to install the latest 7-compatible GeForce driver. As the card is not recognised, the driver is not listed in the Windows Update window, so I can't use this method. I then followed the advice on nvidia's website which said to download and install the latest Vista64 driver. This doesn't work because it says I don't have the correct graphics card for the driver, so back to square one. I'm running Windows 7 in a virtual machine inside XP with 1gb RAM allocated to each operating system. The software I'm using, VirtualBox, only allows the user to allocate 128mb video RAM, so I've set this to maximum and enabled hardware acceleration. No other options related to the graphics card. Could it be the VM software that's preventing the card from being recognised? Can you recommend any other VM that allows the full video RAM to be used or at least the driver to be installed? If anyone else is using an nvidia card in 64bit Windows 7, can you please tell me where I'm going wrong? Thanks
