KVM problems! Any hints?
Hello,
Something not so hightech today, the KVM for one of the Sun servers has froozen. We have not been able to find the cause. Here are the symptoms: * KVM screen works and gets refreshed in a window by the Sun server, also boot of the server is displayed * KVM prompt doesn't flash and appears not to accept input * KVM mouse pointer doesn't move * The KVM doesn't react on the keyboard input to switch server * We have restarted the Sun servers * We have "restarted" the KVM * When the primary server is boots, KVM will show the login window, but no input. It's frozen immediately. Any ideas? Possible errors: * Sun server software (x windows)? * cables from kvm to kvm switch or kvm switch to sun server * kvm switch itself defect? * keyboard / cable from keyboard defect? |

Re: KVM problems! Any hints?
Hi Vas,
Welcome to TSF!!! Here is what I would start with. You know that your servers restart fine. I would work my way from the servers to the kvm, possibly replace the cable that runs between them, or at least make sure that something isn't loose. If that doesn't do it, check the cable that runs from the KVM to monitor. Change that if it seems fine. Also check the keyboard and mouse to make sure that they aren't bad. If there is any other machines that are running on the KVM then I might check and make sure that they are usable. If you don't have any other machines on the KVM I might set up a test machine and make sure that it works. Start with that and see what happens. I wouldn't start with the x windows system yet. That could be a lot of work that isn't needed in the end. Cheers!
