Ms-dos Help Me Please

hi. i am trying to delete a file off my computer, but i cannot delete it in windows becuase i get the Access denied error when i try to delete it. so i created an MS-DOS boot disk from the floppy drive (A:) and used the floppy to boot the computer in msdos so that i could manually delete the file by putting Del C:\program files\ etc etc. but i keep getting bad command or filename and i am 100% certain that i have typed it in correctly. i have tried different things like delete or erase instead of del and tried putting " " at the start and end of the path nothing seems to work. i also tried typing dir C: or dir C:\program files and it still says bad command or filename. i have dont really know why it cant find the file i think it may be becuase it cant find C: drive or it doesnt know what C: or program files is. please help me this is quite frustrating.

also im not really very tech savvy so if you could explain in english please ^_^ thanks.

Hi and welcome to TSF.

Try deleting it using Move on Boot.
Another program you can try is Unlocker.

Re: Ms-dos Help Me Please

I have tried moveonbot in the past which was useless and i just tried unlocker which also didnt work as i susspected. i have tried many things to kill this file. the program that the file is with is designed so that it is almost impossible to delete without the password for it, and i installed this program about 3 years ago and have now forgotten the password. a friend of mine told me that using MS-DOS i could delete the file becuase ms-dos doesnt run the program therefore the file is not protected and can be manually deleted.

i strongly doubt that there is any program out there that i can download that will delete this file, i need to find out why Ms-dos cant find C drive or program files unless anyone has another way i can delete this file and/or program. also i was thinking of booting linux off a USB and then deleting the file in linux although i am not sure how to do this and if it would even work.

Re: Ms-dos Help Me Please

MoveonBoot is supposed to remove files in DOS before Windows boots up so I don't know why that didn't work. An ordinary DOS floppy is unlikely to find your C:\ drive because it will be using the FAT system whereas your C:\ drive will use NTFS. A better bet is to use the Ultimate Boot CD.

Also with the moveonbot should i make it so the file is deleted when i restart and, then put the MS-DOS floppy in and reboot it up will that work???

Re: Ms-dos Help Me Please

If you mark a file for delete on restart with MoveonBoot it should do it during the normal boot procedure. However, if that isn't working the Ultimate Boot CD will allow you to acces NTFS files and you should be able to delete it with that.

Re: Ms-dos Help Me Please

K9 is a parental protection program and is designed to be difficult to remove otherwise it wouldn't be much good if you see what I mean. You could try deleting the program files but that could cause even more problems. The only other thing I can suggest is that you contact k9 or Bluecoat and ask for a new password.

Re: Ms-dos Help Me Please

Sorry I can't be more help but all the information I've found indicates that you can cause more problems for yourself trying to delete it without the password.
