Acorns :)

I NEED to play hamsters. and soon.

Can anyone point me in the direction of an acorn emulator that is free, ie something that isnt VirtualAcorn? I'd run red squirrel, but i cant find any roms :( alternatively, can someone point me in the direction of some roms that are free (or cheaper than VA)? :D

Cheers

well, not quite sure what we can do for you here. maybe someone knows of an emulator for you. have you looked at emulator-zone.com. ya i know its mostly for game systems, but they do have a nice selection of other emulators. but as for roms, that is too far into the grey area. technically, unless you own the hardware that a real rom sits in, you legally can't download and use one, so that would be against forum rules to give help on that one. so please, no asking for/linking of roms in the future, and all will be well. but i'll keep my eye's out for other sites that may have an emulator that you can use. emulation is something i dabble in when i have time, and can be fun what you can do. i had an old mac emulator running in a newer mac emulator, running on my win pc. also have had that same older mac emulator running in a x86 emulator running on my newer mac. as cool as it looks, i don't recommend it, its a little slow.

i'm quite happy to buy a rom set, but there arent any old acorns on ebay, and i just don't know where to buy them otherwise, so if anyone knows where i can buy them (cheaper than VA), that will serve me just as well :)

i'll take a look, cheers for your help

also, i've heard that running a risc os in emulation can be faster than running it on an original acorn, am i barking up the wrong tree?

that depends on the hardware. for an example, i have a mac plus emulator. when i first got it, i put it on my quadra 800 which runs at 33mhz ( the mac+ runs at 8mhz). the emulator was slower than the real thing, so i kept using my mac+. now i have a 466/g4 mac, and the same emulator can run at over 20x the real thing, so i put the mac+ in the closet.
