Internet connected, browsers don't work

Hey guys,

I'm connected to internet but browsers (IE8, Firefox 3.5, Chrome, Safari 4) just don't work. With IE8, I get the message " Interenet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I tried the "Diagnose Connection Problems" button in IE8 which launches Windows Network Diagnostics which tells me "Security policy settings on this computer might be blocking the connection" and suggests adjusting policy in Windows Firewall.

The other browsers give similar messages when I try using them.

Tried disabling Windows firewall but no change. Ran avast! anti-virus and superantispyware but nothing solved.

I noted this problem when Windows Update downloaded and installed security updates on Sep 11 2009.

Tried system restore before these updates but nada.

Skype and utorrent (still downloads and uploads already found torrents) work and the Network and Sharing Center says I'm connected to internet and local.

Wondering if there is some virus hijacking browsers but allowing other programs to access internet.

Or wireless card issues?

I'm running Windows Vista home premium 64-bit SP1 on a new 1-month old Dell Studio 15 with Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN wireless card and Linksys WRTG54 router.

My other laptops are also affected:
Dell Vostro 1500 with Win XP SP3
Dell Vostro 1320 with Vista Home Basic SP1
Both used with wireless N cards with same router.

All had worked well previously until updating by Windows Update on Sep 11.

My old Dell Inspiron 600m with XP Home SP3 and wireless G card works fine on the internet with IE7 and Firefox 3.0.14 using same router. Weird!

I'm so frustrated and have no clue what to do!

Need help please!
