AOL IP address oddity
I have a weird situation going on. All my computers except this one, and there are 4 total, show an IP address 24.*.***.** whether checking whatismyip thru I.E. Explorer or AOL.
This computer shows 24.*.***.** when checking thru explorer, but when I check thru AOL it shows an IP of 207.***.***.*** which is in Kansas somewhere & I'm in Colorado. I am getting booted off at least one forum when trying to login from this IP, even tho they have permissioned the above IP. I have run all kinds of spyware/virus scans, deleted cookies, rebooted modems & routers & this computer, checked addons etc, etc.....but this weird IP thing is causing problems. I wasn't allowed to download an AVG virus update, so I had to download the file on a networked computer to install it. AOL support doesn't exist because I am using a free account, but I'm convinced its something AOL is doing. Anyone else see this? |

Re: AOL IP address oddity
I would like to see the output of an ipconfig /all. If you go to start, then in run type CMD you will be given a command prompt. From there type:
Code:
ipconfig /all Also, just as a side note you are connected to this forum from the ip: 207.200.116.72. Just so that you know. Cheers!

Re: AOL IP address oddity
Ok, so you are behind a router. I guess I should have asked that in the first place. Can you also, post your whatsmyip address, so that we can see it.
I am also, going to get with one of the networking folks and see if they have some insite. Cheers!

Re: AOL IP address oddity
Hi,
Have you run all your scans to make sure that there isn't something hiding on there that might be causing this problem? If you need information on different types of scans you can take a look at this thread. Cheers!

Re: AOL IP address oddity
Yes...I ran several scans, including AVG Pro, Spybot S&D, Hijackthis and Malwarebytes. Nothing was found.
I was hoping someone else may have experienced the same thing, but AOL is gonna be phased out of my every day browsing life anyway......this episode is kinda the pushing that along a bit faster. Thanks for the assistance and if you hear of anything else please let me know 'cause i would like to find out what is really going on. Likewise, if I discover anything I'll share that too. And thanks for the link.....I'll check it out later:-) |

Re: AOL IP address oddity
Hi,
Not a problem. We are here to help people with their problems as best as we can. I have sent a pm to another staff member in the network section to see if the they can shed some light on what is going on here. I can honestly say that I have never heard of a person getting to totally different IP's based on what browser they are using. Lets hope you get this figured out or AOL gets phased out rather quick. Cheers!
