download/install a browser from cmd.
Hi, I don't know if this is even possible but I want to download and install a browser from the internet after I format my computer (I want to wipe it clean of everything). It currently has windows xp. There are other things on my desktop but the only thing I use this computer for is to browse the internet. I want to just empty it of everything and then install a browser. Can I enter a url in the cmd. mode and be able to download a browser from the internet without windows or anything on my computer? If so, could someone please tell me how to do this. Thanks-tkcranor

Re: download/install a browser from cmd.
Hi, welcome to TSF
You won't be able to download files from the internet or run a browser without an operating system. It would be easier to download all the programs you need now (browser, antivirus, firewall, etc) and burn them to CD, then install Windows and the downloaded programs. Or you could use a Linux Live CD to run the operating system from CD with no need to install anything else. It already includes the Firefox browser, so you will only need to use the hard drive for saving files if required, as the operating system and system files are all on the Live CD.
