Re: Google Chrome
Google Chrome is based on the Firefox engine, so should be secure. It's about the same speed as Firefox and faster than IE, but different tests give different results, depending on the content on the web page being loaded.
For example, pages that use java scripts are faster in Chrome, but the new updates to Firefox 3 should make the speeds very similar, with IE lagging behind again.

Re: Google Chrome
I personally don't like chrome. It looks like a hodgepodge of features from different browsers. It does not have addons like firefox where I can get rid of annoying ads and though I am not sure about it, I have a feeling all of your surfin data goes back to google. I just dont trust them.

Re: Google Chrome
I have both Chrome and Firefox. Chrome definitely starts up slower. If I punch up a few of my bookmarks, it takes an extra second or two for Chrome to start up. I see no beneficial of Chrome over Firefox. It has some features but not used enough to make a switch.

Re: Google Chrome
Super fast, fast startup, and several recovery and privacy options. Some notable cons would be no addons, flash and shockwave crash often, and limited features. It's also a whopping 90.5 MB (a large size for a browser).

Re: Google Chrome
I have used Firefox for ages, but downloaded Chrome as it seems like it is taking Firefox forever to load. From my desktop Firefox takes 16 seconds to load, Chrome 3 sec. Within this forum it appears to be 2-3 times as fast.
I am using Firefox 2 as Firefox 3 kept hanging. However Firefox 2 has been annoying, and seems slower than IE, so perhaps there is something residual confusing Firefox on my computer. I had also noticed that when playing a video that Firefox uses up more of the computer resources than IE, it appears that Chrome uses less than either. (Didn't solve my problem of lousy sound though except to know that it happens when the computer is not at capacity!) Judy |

Re: Google Chrome
The main thing that slows down Firefox is the number of addons installed, or conflicts between similar addons.
I tried FF3 for a while, but most of the addons I need aren't supported yet, so I reinstalled FF2. It was a clean install with no addons or themes, and I noticed an immedaite increase in speed compared to the FF2 speed I've been used to for the past few months. But then as I started to put my old addons back in, it gradually slowed back down to its usual level. Still faster than IE though. I read somewhere that there's a way of getting some of the speed benefits of FF3 and applying them to FF2. It was either an about:config edit or a beta nightly build with a hidden setting enabled. If anyone knows what I mean, please reply.

Re: Google Chrome
I uninstalled the add-ons that I didn't use, and it did cut the load time by half. There were a couple I could not uninstall and a couple I would not!
I was surprised that Chrome did not even include the autofill of the Google toolbar on other browsers. I find that awfully handy. Thanks for the hint, that is a little better. |

Re: Google Chrome
Firefox and Chrome left my computer a complete mess. I'll never use either again.
The first time I used Chrome, it crashed out my computer. I didn't bother investigating the cause, as Chrome doesn't play nice with my Linux recovery drive and I didn't want to crash my computer again. Firefox did pretty much the same thing, but Windows was able to recover. Just thought I'd throw out a dissenting opinion.

Re: Google Chrome
I just discovered the most interesting thing. My computer, when speed tested on speedtest.net, and using Google Chrome tests at less than 25% the speed that it does when using IE. (19.6 mbps download with IE, 3.5 with Chrome) I had been beating my head against the wall trying to figure out the difference in speed tests, and it was browser dependent. I believe speedtest.net uses flash and the others where I tested higher with Chrome use Java. Anyhow I read something that said speedtest.net did use a lot of your system resources, and apparently it pretty much uses all of them when I am running Chrome.
Does that mean that whenever you go to websites that use flash you are much slower with Chrome? I don't know that at all at this point, nor what I am going to do about it. I love how fast Chrome loads. |

Re: Google Chrome
Been using chrome since it's official beta launch til 2 weeks ago, switched to IE8 beta. Found out IE8 using the same engine as chrome. Been having some problems on and off with chrome, some incompatibility and some of my program (DAP etc.)
Well I've been jumping from 1 browser to another browser and all I can say is they're all good. IE then to Firefox (multi tab before IE?) no prob til multi page started to load slowly and I failed to fix it with my crappy coding. Safari, fast load but due to my extensive amount of tab opened my all browsers often hang and safari don't have restore previous tabs for me. |

Re: Google Chrome
chrome does have it's up and downs. Firefox was more user friendly but for me and my computer chrome is a little faster. The thing I don't like about chrome is it gives the user hardly any options to change or set how you want. I have been hearing though that it is safer,I have no clue how or why but thats what I hear. can anyone enlighten me and this?
plus I cant get copy and paste to work. I have to use ctrl-c and ctrl-v all the time. gets kinda annoying. |

Re: Google Chrome
I'm surprised at the statement that IE and Chrome use the same engine as there are so many pages that won't work with Chrome and will work with IE, plus the speed issue that I noted. Firefox had an addon so you could easily load IE if you had to, Chrome does not, so that is getting annoying. I opt to have my pdf files downloaded rather than displayed in my browser and Chrome says it can't get the file. Works on IE (This is Adobe 9). So, yet another type of page I have to remember I can't get with Chrome.

Re: Google Chrome
Well my previous statement part of it was based from my boss hehe. He was talking bout how good is microsoft and said now IE8 beta is using the same engine with firefox and chrome.
IE just like old time, they're ditch JScript and move on to something new (microsoft own scripting engine) + (inprivate browsing) FF using compilation JScript (tracemonkey) (the 1 that starts all the multi-tab thing) Chrome using the V8 JScript which is now the fastest engine of all browser (tab tearing) In the end they copy each other so all their features are almost equal, it's just the speed and compatibility. IE got a good boot up speed but because of their unique engine, their perfomance is bad, need lots of memory to run it. FF and Chrome almost the same with Chrome having lots of website not supporting it yet so you'll have some hard time loading some page or they won't load at all. Re: Google Chrome
I used Firefox for years. then when I did Firefox 3 it kept hanging. I eventually took it off and got FF2 on there but it was never the same really. I have made a lot of changes to the computer and FF3 might work now (particularly if its problem was not having room to stretch its legs). I would like to totally scrub my computer of all traces of FF before I try it again. Do you know whether there is anything that does this? I was on a FF forum once and they said that it didn't work to go back to FF2, so that really implies there is stuff left laying around.

Re: Google Chrome
I have been using Chrome now for several months, I switched from IE. I am happy with Chrome, except that the most annoying problem I have with it is, that it will not allow you to highlight a paragraph to print, it will only print the entire page, so, I keep IE handy on the task bar for when I need to print a section. This problem was mentioned a number of times on a Chrome help Forum but to no effect!
