Google Chrome and Firefox will not work.

I just uninstalled and reinstalled both of them, have my firewall turned off, have Norton set to allow them, and still they cannot connect to the server. My connection is fine, I can still use K-Meleon (which is based on the firefox kernel) and it works perfectly.
I have a feeling it's some kind of setting or glitch with my computer, since firefox and chrome are both generally reliable.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to TSF!!

Hi,

Can you give me the error message if any that you are getting? You say that you are getting a cannot connect to server message, have you ever tried to ping the website that you are trying to reach to make sure that they are connecting. Also, how are you connecting now, so that we know that one browser works.

Cheers!

check your settings, How busy was your pc when you tried to re-install? I too had a glitch installing Crm, had to put some processes to bed.

Hi! Azr43l.. wmorri

Azr43l,
I have FF3.5, and have just installed Crm, and after some initial install settings, and using it, all three seem to be getting along just fine. Yes, I also have IE7SP1 aboard.

I can't get over how 'Spartan' Crm is, compared to the other two.

After years of M$; And then the IE7 security problems, well, that put me over the edge on staying with M$. I then went to FF3.5.... Just as polished, and a Heck of a lot quicker.

Spartan, as in working with a beta version of Crm, Chrome, you've got "barebones" there, oboy!, then again it is "beta". Crm is just as quick, but there just isn't a lot there.

Error 104 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_FAILED): The attempt to connect to the server failed.

That is the error message that Chrome gives me.
I am currently connected through DSL on K-Meleon.

Azr43,
Go to > google-chrome-help-troubleshooting
Then down to fifth, and sixth reply.

If you have any firewalls you need to change settings to allow chrome to work.
Windoze's one care also needs to be set, to allow.

Re: Google Chrome and Firefox will not work.

Not sure if my issue is connected, but since a couple of days ago I've had the same problem. Suddenly (and I mean suddenly) Firefox stopped working. "Failed to connect" and "Page load errors". I eventually discovered that ALL BROWSERS EXCEPT IE weren't working. I tried Firefox, Chrome, Opera and Safari - nothing. IE, however, works fine. All IM programs (I tried yahoo, msn, oovoo) also work fine.
Totally confused here.

Re: Google Chrome and Firefox will not work.

Do you have any version of ''Web Shield'' installed?

Re: Google Chrome and Firefox will not work.

Okay,
There could be several reasons:

If on satt-cable-dsl-fios-wireless, the connection could be bad.

If you have a modem installed in your PC make sure it is disabled.

Firewall permissions, check to see yours allows FF-CHR.

If you made changes to FF-CHR reset to default.

3rd party add-ons disable all in each.

Winsock needs repaired.

DNS is clogged and needs flushed.

VPN Problem.

See here for a more detailed discussion
