[SOLVED] Did I miss an outer-space AOL takeover?
Do I ever need help! I feel as though there has taken place a world-shaking event about which only I am unaware. Is AOL cutting off people who have been members for years without notification? Yesterday morning my AOL account started to only allow me to get on and process my email. AOL's Welcome Screen can't even be loaded. I can no longer access the Internet from within AOL. Even registering for Tech Support Forum I had to paste the Confirmation web connection from my email to AOL’s separate Navigator program. All my online business email addresses are through AOL. I cannot contact some sort of AOL tech help because, yep, even that requires going to another web address, and I am blocked doing that using their Navigator. I really can't spend all day on a solution that is sort of, "and at step 15, click the icon on page 37 of your Utility subsection 10 ...," as much as such information would be appreciated. I'm wondering if I should reinstall my AOL software, but the only such that I have on disc is about two AOL generations in the past. Any suggestions on how to solve this soon would be really, really appreciated. If you can email me directly, that would be even much more appreciated. (Of course, I have shut down my computer, and back up, and all that.)
Thanks very much to anyone for even listening, tma Ps - After one week please assume this problem has been solved or I have been institutionalized in a big white sanitarium with rolling green lawns. Re: Did I miss an outer-space AOL takeover?
In answer to your question is AOL cutting people, assuming you are talking about office and call center staff it is yes. They have closed the offices in Oklahoma City and from what I've been told are laying off a considerable sum in Jacksonville.
Now that AOL is free when you bring your own broadband they I guess don't feel the need for all those support people. It is still IE based and runs on Mozilla though not very well. Hope that helps.

Re: Did I miss an outer-space AOL takeover?
The same thing has been happening to me! I have searched and searched the web to find something about the status of AOL, but the closest I came was this post. Since about the beginning of August, I can only read my email on AOL. I can't browse the internet or access any AOL stuff such as billing or even the help page. Once in awhile it will work normally, but the majority of the time the web pages time out.
I thought maybe it was my computer but now that I see you have the same problems, I know it has to be something with AOL. I checked around for help and most replies suggested clearing the cache and reinstalling AOL but I did that first off and nothing changed. I mainly use AOL for email as I have had an account since 1996, otherwise I would have ditched AOL long ago. Now that I can't browse, it is inconvenient because I have to transfer all my links to my explorer if I want to access something from my email. Let me know if you find out anything more, since AOL won't help me as long as I am not a "paying" customer. Angelica |
