Re: safari for windows

I really do question Apple's motive for this move, I mean how does this make them a profit?!

Perhaps popularity, trying to make themself the common type of computer.

Also there is the hotlinks at the top of the browser (Amazon, ebaY etc), they probably make money for them.

Re: safari for windows

those hot links are just bookmarks. so apple doesn't make any more money if you click on them than ie or ff does when you click on a bookmark to the same sites. why did apple do it? why did they release itunes for windows (the headlines on apple's site of that day were "hell froze over"), or release bootcamp? its all part of making themselves more of a household name. if some uses itunes, and like it, they may be more likly to download safari. and if they really like that too, then they may want to see more of the "apple experience". then to find out more, they goto an apple store, or the website, and see more that they like, and that makes sense to them. then they may buy a mac, and botta-bing, up goes apple's bank account, and one less used windows pc in the world.

but....

on the other hand it scares me as a long time apple user. they dropped computer from their name, have spent the whole year focusing on the iphone, delayed the newest revision of their os, and haven't announced anything mac hardware wise at either of the big apple conferences of the year. there are times i fear that someday the lovely os x will not be running on the equally lovely macintosh hardware, but on some junky, ragged homebrew pc box i built years ago, but keep upgrading to keep up with the latest hardware.

anywho, i have it installed and set as default. and it seems to be just like the os x version, so if anyone needs help, let me know.

Re: safari for windows

Hi yall,
I have installed Safari V. 3.0.1 and have it set as my default browser on my PC. I am kinda used to ff and the numerous add ons. Is there a adblock for Safari or is it too early. The next thing is, is it just my computer or is Safari a memory hog?

Re: safari for windows

safari has a built-in popup blocker. it can be turned on either in the preferences or putting a checkmark next to it by selecting it in a menu.

Actually, that is not the adblock that I was refering to. I was talking about the Ablock Plus addon for ff, here's a link of what I am talking about https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 do not know if you are familiar with it or not but, it actually block ads on a web page from showing up.

ugly, buggy, but pretty darn fast. i use it as a primary when on a mac - it's a lot more stable there. but then, what isn't? apple should be applauded for trying. but they need to get more updates out - how they do that is unclear. is the latest version u all have 3.0.2 (522.13.1)? Apple Updated seems to be inop, or confused over Itunes/QT/Safari install here. They need to do a better job detecting QT on PCs that have itunes and safari.

having all these browsers is nice for users, but a pain for webdevs. i guess now adobe will have to add this version of safari to it's browser compatibility check, unless safari 3 is the same as safari 2 as far as parsing goes.

anyone using firefox 3 beta?

BS

Re: safari for windows

I have it and love it. I will say that it could be a little more customizable, but that is probably because it is so new, and it is noticibly faster than anyt other browser I have used. I think if we give Apple a little more time, Safari for Windows(or in my case, WinMac), will be the one browser to rule them all!!

Re: safari for windows

I like the feel and touch of Safari but, there are a few things missing when you are used to customized FF like myself. I've used Safari on a Mac b4 but, this windows version need some more work which, I know Apple will be doing anytime now. Can't wait. I do find that it hogs more memory than FF, or maybe it is just my machine. LOL
