Well, since you have Vista Ultimate, It could be your computer. From what I understand, Vista is a major memory hog, but you probably knew that and were being funny. I can't tell anymore as I can be a little slow in understanding humor.

Re: safari for windows

Too many bugs for XP Pro in my experience. Will wait until it's stable.

I just discovered the FF ifox Metal theme - ya can hardly tell the difference in look and feel between that and safari 3, except that everything (and more) works! So i am back on FF 2.0.0.4 now. Its just the best.

Re: safari for windows

Well, I beta tested Safari for Windows, and it's just full of bugs. Other than that, and it's not bad.

I just uninstalled safari and went back to Firefox. I guess I never should never have switched.

Re: safari for windows

Now that I've tried Safari again (with it finally leaving beta-status), I think I want to stick with it. There are still a couple of points that grate with me, like the dark dark grey of the unified title-bar. I mean, it's even darker than the iTunes title-bar. I'm dying for a hack to just lighten it up a bit.

No ad-blocking is also something I want a solution for. I wonder if there's an ad-blocker that works at the Windows hosts-file level? ..or maybe one that hacks with Safari. I haven't been able to find one so far. I do remember liking the ad-blocking the was built into the Norton's Internet Security firewall, but that was quite a manual process, and the Norton's (now Symantec) applications IMHO do too much to bog the OS down.

I like that font-smoothing though. Has anyone noticed how much better east-asian (and other non-western) fonts look? Microsoft have treated those ones as second-class aliased fonts for years. I think a fair few of my Asian friends are going to like the look of this.

Re: safari for windows

I have Safari but only use it on sites that require a fast download speed, such as streaming videos.

I decided to keep Opera as my default browser. I also use IE with the IE7pro extension.

I will never use Firefox, seeing as it destroyed my friend's computer. As soon as he started using it, spyware started pouring in. I would not reccommend anyone use Firefox, ever.

Oh, now is this one flame-bait? So, you use Opera, and IE, and Safari for streaming. Any reason there isn't one browser that satisfies all your browsing needs?

But as for this "as soon as he started Firefox, the spyware started pouring in" lark. Are you kidding me? There is no spyware in Firefox. It is the only browser by a company without an overtly commercial agenda .. contrast it with many of the Netscape branded versions of years past. Those were filled with crap.

If the spyware started pouring in, his machine had problems before Firefox got on it, or the Firefox install was infected with something, or you browsed to something bad. And if you're worried about crap on the machine, install the adblock and scriptblock extensions. ..and for gods sake, make sure there's an anti-virus program, and Spybot/Adaware before you start the process.

Firefox isn't an antivirus/antispyware program. Make sure the PC is protected before you network it. Or use a mac if you don't know how to keep a machine free of malicious software. Or stop browsing for porn / wares.

Nathan. (Been working in IT support for a decade .. our IT group has been installing Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox since the early version 4's .. we never got spyware on a machine once .. the problem here was something other than Firefox.)

It's because each browser has it's pros and cons.

Not true. Mozilla has made profits of tens of millions of dollars through Firefox.

The only browser that is truly not-for-profit is Konqueror.

Are you admitting that Firefox has holes?

Re: safari for windows

I use Safari, actually, I'm on it right now. I'm quite fond of it, except the fact that if someone sends me an IM from AOL Instant Messenger and I click it, Safari will not open even though it's my default browser. Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: safari for windows

I downloaded Safari 3.1 tonight and I'm using it now. I'm very impressed with the speed, it does have pop up blocking and remembers my log in details for sites I visit. I wish you could set it to automatically delete cookies and history when you close it down like you can with Opera. I'm not grumbling though. I can find no bugs, it's a fast browser and I'm going to use it.

Re: safari for windows

Safari is really nice, sleek, ingenious, innovative, new, fast and what-not.
However, as the name itself says, it's a Safari, most of the things there are disorganized.
The biggest bug to me is that it cannot log on hotmail directly.
It redirects itself to at least 8 websites (including live.com, msn.com, hotmail.com) with no positive results, only showing you, in the end, that there MIGHT be some problem with msn: no problem with msn, but it's safari! However, if you're as desperate as me and really wanna use Safari for hotmail, then do this:
- on msn.com go to Spaces
- on Spaces click on the upper tab that says HOTMAIL
and there you are! it's just a way to go around it. Another way would be to delete the cookies for live.com, which will anyway restart the next time you reboot or re-open Safari. Patience guys, patience!
