Ok, I am so frustrated!
I have taken an HP Pavillion that had ME OS. I installed a fresh XP OS. I have a disc that I bought that is XP and it says upgrade on the CD. So, then I tried to go online. It already had a modem in it that worked before the xp install. So, then I can't remember what happened, but I bought a new modem. US Robotics 56K fax PCI modem. I installed 9.0 Securtity Edition and I couldn't go online. I checked the modem through the modem query and it said that it was working correctly and there were modem strings. I did this several times. Then I got a message when I tried to dial up to AOL and go online. The message said..... "An error has occured due to low memory. Please close other programs running on your computer, then try again. If the problem persists, exit and restrt AOL. You may also need to restart your computer." I have looked in the control panel/Add/Remove programs and have uninstalled AOL. Then I uninstalled everything else there is in there that pertains to AOL. Then I went to do a search for aol and found stuff and deleted it. I emptied the recycle bin. Restarted and then I tried to do a reinstall. Same things happened over and over again. I called tech support for AOL. They instructed me to do several things. One of which , was to right click on the AOL icon by the clock and go to system information. I went to the connectivity tab and it would just hang and hang and hang. They said that the ACS file must be missing. They said I should be all set. Well neadless to say, I am still not online. Still can't get rid of all of the AOL stuff that comes up on a search. I have deleted anything aol in the c/program files, windows folder, stuff still comes up and still shows up in the add/remove programs and the message still says that there is aol running. AOL was trying to have me close all AOL programs and that didn't work either. I think I did a restore of xp also and I still have the same problems..... How will I ever figure this out???? P.S. I did try to install a different kind of aol and found out that it was AOL VR....vista ready... I didn't know it was VR. It didn't say on the CD or the CD jacket. Would that make a difference? Please someone help me get this AOL hell figured out!!! Thank you......Connie

Re: AOL won't uninstall
Connie,
You installed XP on you Pavilion? What is the processor and system memory on it? While XP claims to work on relatively most systems and memory configurations, you really need a P4 and 512MB to run effectively. Additionally why the insistance on A-O-Hell? |

Re: AOL won't uninstall
Ok, I am persistant on AOL because I live in the country and this is the only internet that I can get with my phone and phone company.
I have 2 Hp Pavillions. xt983 which is the one that I am able to get online with. Also have a xt 858 which was my brothers old computer that had ME on it I believe when he bought it. Our 2 computers are pretty much the same age. I installed xp on mine and I only have 256 mg ram. Mine is a Albatron motherboard, AMD xp-1099 processor,133.3 MHz (PC2100),bios..Pheonix. The computer that won't install AOL is a 256mb, Pentium 111,996MHz, and this computer only has 4 programs in the add/remove programs list... very minimal. That is the reason I couldn't understand why it said there was low memory. |

Re: AOL won't uninstall
If the run line didn't work try signing on as a Guest (or go to a PC that has internet access) and nav to...
lowmemoryfix.notlong.com You'll be linked to a site where you can download a small file that will fix the issue. or You can open open the reg editor and nav to the HKLM\SOFTWARE\America Online folder and delete the STATE key from there. |
