Annoying sound since updating Firefox...
I use the Firefox browser and have for a couple of years now. I installed the Google Toolbar a few months ago and had no problems with it. However, now since the update of Firefox I keep hearing this annoying 'zapping' sound when I open webpages. I think it is the Google Toolbar PageRank feature that is causing the noise but I am not sure. I also couldn't find any information that states that PageRank makes any type of sound....not even on the Google Toolbar Help Page...There's no info.
Is anyone else experiencing this noise? How do I turn the noise off? And Yes, I do have the updated version that is compatible with the new Firefox. THANKS! TC

Could it be the Popup Blocker sound?

Not Sure...
Hi Koala,
I'm not sure if it is the popup blocker sound or not. I just keep hearing this 'zapping' sound each time I open a new page. It's driving me nuts. The only way I can get rid of it is to turn the sound off on the computer. I still want to know where the sound is coming from. Turning off the sound is only treating a symptom and not at all getting down to what the real 'problem' is. Thanks..I hope someone can help me figure this one out. Until then I'm trying to do it on my own... TC

Have you tried the instructions in the popup blocker link?
Do a search for all WAV files. If you find it in the Windows folder, then check which event it's linked to in Control Panel. If it's in a program folder then disable it using the program's options. It might be a warning of some sort, in which case you don't want to disable it until you've dealt with the problem. Check the options for each of your Firefox extensions to see if any has a sound option that can be disabled. Do you have any 3rd party software running in the background?

Okay, I'm going to go to do the things you listed. I did check the extentions on yesterday and found nothing. I even disabled them all to see where the sound was coming from. The sound still existed even when I disabled all of the extensions.
I have no idea what a WAV file is but I will do a search on my computer. I don't see any information relating to a pop-up blocker on my toolbar. I do know that I have a popup blocker installed because sometimes a banner comes up on the top of my screen to alert me that a pop-up was blocked. However, I do not see a pop-up 'control' anywhere on my desktop?? Still figuring this one out... I'll report back when I find anything... Thanks |

WAV is the file format for sound files used by Windows and most other programs. If you can find the WAV file that makes the sound you're hearing, post back with it's folder/location and we'll take it from there.

WHEW!
Koala Thanks so very much for sticking in here with me! I just found out what the problem was. Apparently it was one of my extensions. I just realized that I had checked all of the extensions except one called 'NoScript'. I guess when Firefox updated it also updated this extension and the sound changes must have occurred then because I had it for so long and I never heard any sound. I just thought to uninstall it and voila...no more sound. I will reinstall it now and turn the sound feature off. What a relief..that zapping sound was about to drive me bonkers! TC

You can disable the sound by clicking the NoScript icon. Go to Options > Appearance and disable 'audio feedback'.
Glad you got it fixed!
