Firefox Download Problems

This is a follow-on my previous query about having problems
getting Firefox to download text and images. I am using the latest version of ffx having removed the program from my system (including the profiles) and downloading using IE. I have followed the suggestions given in replies to my previous post without any success (setting up new Profiles files and making sure that xpi was set to true in about:config. Whenever I attempt to download a file the program hangs. I am using Windows XP w/SP2 and nothing obvious has changed in the system to cause the program to behave as it does.

My System

I've had a similar problem in the last few versions of Firefox. It doesn't crash, but sometimes downloads start and don't go beyond 0%. Clearing the cache or restarting Firefox fixes it in my case, yours might be something different though.

Try the FlashGot extension. It's much more reliable and allows you to pause and resume downloads, as well as download from multiple mirror sites simultaneously for extra speed.
