Plugin Problem.

Since day one of having FF i've not been able to add plugins which has resulted in numerous websites not displaying pictures nor video, hence, i've had to suffice with AOL.

My query is, why does FF tell me i need to update plugins, show me the page and the plugin's and when i click 'install/download the next screen with the bar indicating '% of plugin downloaded' doesn't even budge?

I'm talking about, zilch, nata, zero. FF does not crash, i can cancel it and continue my feeble browsing capabilities.

Any solutions?

I have:

windows XP with a naff security centre that doesn't work
Norton 2006 anti virus/firewall
AOL, i.e with FF set as default and custom details indicating prefs for FF
net connection is 1mb via broadband & wireless router (Thomson speedtouch 580)

Danke'
