How to make my xpi extension install right

Type of file: .xpi
FIle name: duplicate_tab-0.6.2-fx+mz.xpi

Ok there is probely a simple explanation but i can't figure it out. I just downloaded a new extension and hit save as. Now i went to double click the file and windows didn't no how to open it gave me the list of programs. I thought if i went to programs list and selected the firefox.exe it would work. however, it just opened a new tab in my broswer and did nothing. I then opened it with winrar which worked. However there is no install in the file. I no firefox is just supposed to open the file and and the extensions tab is supposed to come up and ask if you want to intsall it. How can i fix this. I need to no what program i am supposed to open the file with to let it install.

My System

Did you get it from https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...info.php?id=28 ?
Instead of right-click/save, left-click the green 'Install Now' box and Firefox will automatically install and set it up. Then restart Firefox to activate it.

My System

Using your link, I left-clicked 'Download Duplicate Tab 0.6.2', selected 'Open with... Firefox' and it does the same as my v0.7 link, automatically installs. You don't need to save it.

What happens when you left-click it?

You drag it into the extensions window. Then you need to restart firefox for the changes to take effect.
