Re-establish default user

My son was using my computer and somehow pulled up the dialogue box that identifies you as default user or some other user. I had to redefine things but now can't get back to my original user name- which contained all my bookmarks. I can't figure out where in the toolbars I can toggle between users or how to get back to my original default user. When I clicked on that before, it told me I cdn't access because default user was already in use- so I had to create a new user to access Firefox. Can anyone help?

Thanks and Happy New Year

Red Faced Bump

Haven't received any replies and only 4 reads. Maybe lots of people are away. Still trying to find an answer to my query and the toolbars and help menu aren't of any assistance.

Sorry for the delay. Unless your son has completely deleted your user profile (your bookmarks, extensions, security options) it should still be intact. You can select different profiles using the Profile Manager.

From http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
Close Firefox/Mozilla Suite/Thunderbird completely and make sure that the application is not running in the background. Open the "Start" menu, select "Run" and type
firefox.exe -profilemanager

didn't work

I went to run and typed in the address- msg said the file couldn't be found. I doubt my son did much- he said the msg suddenly appeared when he was in firefox. Msg told him to pick a user or make a new one. He clicked ok and then the problems began. What shd I do now?

thanks

Bump- still having a problem

I followed the instructions to go to Run etc. But once I get there, I donl't know what to do. The links at the site for profile are all dead- so I'm back to the beginning.

thanks

My System

None of the links are dead on either of the sites I provided. They are all internal links which navigate to different areas within the same page, the same as scrolling down.

Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
How many profile folders are there and what are they called?

If there's more than one, go to C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox and open profiles.ini in Notepad. Copy and paste the contents back here.

The usual way of correcting your problem is to change the Path= line.

HEre are the results

Here is what's in notepad. By the way, when someone worked on this computer and set it up a couple of years ago, they set up my user name in more than one way. For this exercise,I chose the user name that contained My documents.

What i'm wondering is what I got to when I followed the instructions for Run which you provided earlier. I got to this strange page of links which didn't go anywhere. do you think something is wrong.I just ran a hijack this log and posted it because I have lots of hacker and spyware on my system-despite religiously running ad aware, norton, spybot and cwshredder.

thanks

My System

Try moving Default=1 into [Profile0], then restart firefox.

If you're still infected, even with all your security software, it might be best to wait til your hijack log is clear before carrying on.
